Position on SR-30
UDOT has recently resumed a study regarding the potential realignment of SR-30, in consultation with the Cache Metropolitan Planning Organization (CMPO) and Logan City.
According to the UDOT website, “UDOT will use the state administered study to serve as the decision making process for determining and documenting appropriate transportation alternatives within the project area through the year 2035.” They plan to involve stakeholders in the process, which should take about a year.
I am supportive of the study so we have data to make the best decision possible. One area of concern to me for the future of Logan City is air quality. One of the issues with air pollution is mobility; how often cars are stopped. Improving mobility improves air quality. This study will examine, among other things, if mobility and therefore air quality, would be improved with a realignment.
Once the study is completed, we need to carefully examine possible costs and benefits to the City and affected neighborhoods.
In speaking with council members and city staff regarding UDOT’s current 10th West project in Logan, they have been impressed with the way UDOT has listened to neighborhood concerns and adjusted the project to address many of those concerns. That gives me confidence that they will listen to stakeholders as part of the process.
